Executive Function Coaching

Individualized, neurodiversity-affirming support for students in fourth grade and above

Executive function coaching helps students better understand how they learn and develop practical systems for managing schoolwork, responsibilities, and growing independence.

Coaching is collaborative and tailored to each student’s strengths, goals, learning profile, and everyday demands. Students are supported in finding strategies that feel realistic, useful, and sustainable.

For children in third grade and below who need support with executive functioning skills as part of reading, writing, math, or other academic work, please visit our Elementary Academic & Learning Support page.

Who May Benefit

Executive function coaching may be helpful for students who:

  • Have difficulty getting started, even when they understand the assignment

  • Feel overwhelmed by multiple assignments or long-term projects

  • Need support organizing materials, assignments, or online platforms

  • Forget deadlines, materials, or next steps

  • Have difficulty estimating or managing time

  • Benefit from support developing study and test-preparation routines

  • Have organizational systems that are difficult to maintain

  • Want to feel more confident and independent in managing school

Students do not need a diagnosis to participate.

Areas of Support

Coaching may focus on:

  • Planning and prioritizing

  • Getting started on tasks

  • Organizing assignments, materials, and digital platforms

  • Breaking larger assignments into manageable steps

  • Time awareness and time management

  • Managing short- and long-term projects

  • Developing study and test-preparation routines

  • Monitoring progress and adjusting plans

  • Communicating with teachers

  • Building self-awareness and self-advocacy

  • Developing confidence and independence

What Coaching May Look Like

Sessions are practical and connected to the student’s current responsibilities. Students may bring assignments, schedules, upcoming tests, online school platforms, or long-term projects into sessions.

Together, the student and coach may identify what is getting in the way, organize current responsibilities, create a realistic plan, develop personalized systems, and review which strategies are working.

Students are not expected to arrive already organized or motivated. Coaching offers a respectful space to understand barriers, reduce shame, and develop strategies collaboratively.

Our Approach

We use a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach that recognizes there is no single right way to organize, plan, or complete work.

Students are encouraged to understand their own patterns, recognize their strengths, and participate actively in developing systems that fit their lives. Support emphasizes autonomy, practical problem-solving, self-understanding, and growing independence.

We prioritize:

  • A respectful and trusting relationship

  • Student voice and autonomy

  • Practical systems that fit the student’s real life

  • Flexible problem-solving

  • Confidence and self-understanding

  • Growing independence

  • Collaboration with caregivers and school professionals when helpful

Getting Started

Introductory Fit Call

A caregiver begins with a brief call with Emily to discuss the student’s needs, goals, scheduling, and whether executive function coaching may be a good fit.

Initial Planning Package:
$825

New students begin with an individualized planning process that helps Emily understand the student’s strengths, current challenges, and experiences across home and school.

This process may include a caregiver meeting, executive function rating scales, review of relevant educational information, communication with school professionals, and a school observation when appropriate.

Initial areas of focus are identified through this process. Goals and strategies are then developed collaboratively with the student and caregiver during coaching sessions.

Eight-Week Coaching Package:
$2,475

Each package includes:

  • Eight weekly, 60-minute individual coaching sessions

  • One caregiver progress meeting

  • Brief communication needed to support coaching

The caregiver meeting provides time to share observations, review progress, refine goals, and consider any helpful adjustments.

Continuing Support

Executive function skills develop through practice, reflection, and adjustment over time. Families generally continue through the semester in consecutive eight-week coaching blocks, with payment made one block at a time.

A consistent weekly appointment is reserved to support continuity and give students time to develop systems that feel useful and sustainable.

Additional Services

Additional parent consultation, school collaboration, school meetings or observations, record review, consultation with other professionals, and written recommendations outside of the package are billed at $275 per hour, prorated based on time.

Families will be informed before substantial additional services are provided.

Additional Information

  • Sessions are generally held once per week for 60 minutes.

  • Coaching is usually provided in person.

  • Telehealth may be available when appropriate.

  • Services are private pay.
